Got a call yesterday to help a friend collect a car trailer up in the mountains, so decided to be kind and help out. As annoying and stressful as the whole day managed to be ( long story about towing mishaps and clutches) It was worth it in the end.
Secluded in the middle of nowhere is an abandoned, tired looking Elise. No background to the car sadly other then it hasn’t moved in years, but it was still pretty cool to see.

Poor thing, it looks so happy, yet so sad simultaneously. Could you tell whether it was a Rover or Toyota engined model though?

Wow the elements have not been kind to the Elise. How bad off was the interior? As much as saving and restoring it for track use would make for an amazing story, something tells me the story of what led up to its abandonment would be even more interesting.
What state/mountains did you find it in?

It has the newer model fogs so I’d guess Toyota. They could’ve been swapped though.

Depending on exactly how abandoned it is (is it on currently owned property?) I’d be tempted to rescue at least the wheels. Such a shame that it’s all going to just rot away...

If its stock then its the Toyota, the S1 had a K Series (Rover engine) and the S2 has the Toyota lump.

Yeah I thought so

Depends on the year. Pre 2004 S2 all had K-series engines, the 2004 111R was the first to use a Toyota engine, although the base Elise and the 111S kept the K-series until 2005.

10/10 would have taken it home with me.

Yikes! Windows down even. That’s a damn shame.

Argh and I was son confident too. I bow to your knowledge. I was looking at S2s a while ago based on the toyota engine rather than the K series, worth knowing that not all S2s are Toyota’d.

The interior is a festering mouldy bacteria breeding ground. I mean there is mould on metal. The owner of the land ( the term owner used loosley ) uses it essentially for storing junk , so either this was a daily driver he crashed or a parts car we don’t know.
It was found near Dublin, Ireland

If it wasn’t for the fact I already had a car, or what used to be a car on the back of the trailer I would have brought it home !

Sadly two wheels are cracked ! It is owned property , though it is essentially a clearing in a forest surrounded by nothingness
so ownership is very vague.

This actually is very fitting since the reason I was up there in the first place was to get a trailer for my new MX5 !

Ah gotcha! Car would need lots of love before it was drive able again anyway. You’d need a lot of time and money to get it back to its glory again.

Well all I can say is that whoever lives in the area where that abandoned Lotus is, should check with their DMV and see the statutes on cars left like that.
Because to restore a Lotus is worth it (There is no such thing as an abandoned Lotus where I live :P)

10/10 would get mechanically sound and drive it that way
